MANILA - Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz does not see an end to the pork scam soon.

In an interview with Radio Veritas, Cruz said: “That’s why you see, there is one accused who may even run for vice president. So it does not matter, it can be forever and ever, especially if we go to the Supreme Court. The justice system in the Philippines is a big, big inanity because it is slower than the turtle pace.”

And while the hearings are ongoing, corruption continues to feed on the country’s political system, he said.

Cruzfears that no one will be brought to justice. To make things worse, people will forget that there was once a pork barrel scam, he said.

A total of 38 people including three senators are facing plunder, bribery and malversation charges before the Office of the Ombudsman for their alleged links to the misuse of the priority development assistance funds.

Whistle-blowers said lawmakers connived with businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles and officials from implementing agencies to steal millions of pesos in so-called pork barrel funds.

The Ombudsman is still investigating the charges.

Cruz said he feels that the Senate is just wasting people’s money with its nonstop hearings into the pork scam. He believes the hearings are not going anywhere.

Cruz earlier called on voters to choose wisely their candidates in the next elections. He urged them not to vote for politicians involved in the pork scam.
