Erap: Noynoy is my toughest opponent

MANILA, Philippines - Former Philippine president Joseph Estrada on Monday admitted that his toughest opponent in the 2010 presidential race is survey frontrunner and Liberal Party standard bearer Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.

"I think Number 1 is harder to beat. I want to be number 1. Siyempre siya yung pinakamahirap talunin. If he is still number 1 (by May), he will be the hardest to beat," Estrada said in a radio dzMM interview.

Aquino has topped pre-election surveys by Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations since he announced his candidacy last September. SWS president Mahar Mangahas, however, noted that  there has been a consistent decline in support for Aquino since December.

Estrada currently ranks third in the race but has been steadily gaining support after ramping up his presidential campaign last February.

In the interview, the former president said the people should vote to bring him back to Malacañang because he is the original opposition candidate compared to other presidential bets who conspired to remove him from office in 2001. If re-elected, he said he would prioritize food security in the country.

Estrada was elected president in 1998 but was removed from office in 2001 after a four-day bloodless revolt, which has been dubbed the EDSA 2 People Power Revolution.

"We celebrate EDSA 1 every year because it signaled the return of democracy to the country. But EDSA 2, we don't celebrate EDSA 2. The Filipinos are ashamed of it. It was illegal and the way I was removed was unconstitutional," he said.

In the interview, he said the present group of presidential contenders did nothing when his best friend, the late actor Fernando Poe Jr, ran for the presidency in 2004 and lost to President Arroyo. Arroyo has been accused of rigging the 2004 presidential election with the help of Commission on Elections official Virgilio Garcillano Jr.

The original 'orange' candidate

Estrada, meanwhile, chided Nacionalista Party bet Sen. Manuel Villar for "stealing" his campaign colors for the presidential race. Both candidates are using the color orange to distinguish themselves from the other candidates.

Estrada said the color orange in his campaign has a storied history, dating as far back as his successful senatorial campaign in 1987.

At that time, he said there was a lot of tension between the ruling Laban political party of President Corazon Aquino and the remaining members of the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan of ousted president Ferdinand Marcos. Laban used the color yellow while KBL used red.

"Since I wanted unity in the country, I mixed the red and the yellow and came up with orange. Orange has been my campaign color since 1986. When I ran for senator, vice-president and president, I used orange as my campaign color. Matagal ko nang kulay ito," he said.

He added: "Iba na yung original. Mahirap yung nangongopya lang."

Estrada reiterated his earlier claim that he received feelers from another candidate to withdraw from the race in exchange for the reimbursement of his campaign expenses. Asked if it was Villar who sent the offer, he said: "May mga pahiging lang. I cannot say if it came from them."

He also admitted that he shares the same dilemma as other candidates when it comes to lack of campaign contributions. He added, however, that unlike other candidates, he is running a much leaner campaign.  "First of all, we don't do 'hakot' crowds. We don't pay artists so matipid na matipid. We also have friends who donate gasoline money or sound systems. These are just small things that I get," he said.

Estrada said that compared to his competitors, he does not need celebrity endorsers for his campaign.

"The people are my biggest endorser. Si Erap may masang Pilipino. Sila lang ang pinagmamalaki natin," he said.

IT'S ERAP OR NEVER

.Give back the power of the presidency to Pres. Erap let us see if the wealthy crooks will grab back his job.

We're not a democracy. It's a terrible misunderstanding and a slander to the idea of democracy to call us that. In reality, we're a plutocracy: a government by the wealthy.

Wealthy few overwhelms presidential candidates. Kaya mag-negosyo na lang sina Money Villar, Abnoy Aquino, Bigo Teodoro, Biik Gordon.

Erap is better kasi...

mas barako at lalaki ang dating ni Erap but si Noynoy, mukhang malambot pa sitaw na pinakuluan aside from being Mama's boy! He can't show his own character to the people without his parents clouting his image and most of all fickle minded pa. Star studded na nga ang campaign meetings eh kailangan pa ng love team publicity para bumenta.
Magpatubo ka rin kaya ng bigote Noy para mabawasan ang issue?

why we will not vote for sen.noy

---------------------------------------------------

people are now asking........
anu na ba nagawa ni sen. noy?
anu na nagawa nia pra mapatunayan ang kanyang kakayahan,...

kung bago lng cia like 2-3yrs we will never question his accomplishment

pero its 11-12 yrs!!!!!
y? would we believe he'll be the one to end corruption?
bcoz he or famous people act say he's clean?

y? only now...
remember u don't need to be a president to remove/lessen corruption..

former pres. estrada was convicted inspite of being a president..
[this only shows that u don't need to be a president to remove/lessen corruption]..

y?suddenly they become the opposition?
what have they done to oppose this current administration???

FACT: he once vote for not playing the garci tape..

anu na ba nagawa nia to alleviate poverty????????

regarding the luisita there is a recorded converstation in w/c ny times is ready to release it stating

"the family did not intend to let go of the land, contrary to Aquino's campaign promise."
a remark made by Aquino's first cousin, a Luisita executive...

contrary to Aquino's campaign promise.

check this link..
http://www.gmanews.tv/story/186365/noynoy-cries-unfair-but-ny-times-stan...

sino sino ba ang mga politikong nasa paligid nia,..
mga dating lakas na kapartido ni pgma?

mga dating sen. na nasa ticket ng lakas...???????

we question the spending?
but did we question the spending for sen. noy...
cnu cno ba ang mga negosyanteng nasa likod ni sen,noy...

if "return of investment" is an ultimate rule...
"meaning hndi ka pwede gumawa ng mganda dhl iicipin babawiin mu lng ito at ma kapalit...""

isn't it the same rule that should apply for the businessman na nag invest kay sen. noy..????????

i hope kung sinu man ang manalo...
ang kandidato sana na may napatunayan na sa pamumuno at may napatupad o nagawa na...

wag lng si sen. noy..
again 11-12yrs,,,... kung hindi lng cia ganun katagal
we will never question his accomplishment

marami na ang nagtatanong...
his negative politic's might be working for now
but in the end..

people will ask the very question of accomplishment
importante sa amin yan...

sino man ang manalo basta may kakayahan at may napatunayan
wag lang si sen.noy

-----------------------

we expect abs cbn to be bias toward sen. noy
if we will check the history of the lopeze's and the aquino family..

like the prev. election due to negative and bias news of abs cbn
cause a great decrease of downfall of the rating of fpj................

sa presidenteng walang nagawa tayo aasa.

Filipinos Around the World

Please help prevent Bayan Muna Representative Satur Ocampo from officially running as a senatorial candidate in the upcoming national elections in 2010 by signing this petition.

Background of Satur Ocampo: Satur who used the aliases Alex/Allen/Aloy/Ely/Andres/Bernard/Antong/Jack/Antonio Soriano and Ka Supremo was a high-ranking leader of the Communist Party of the Philippines. His position as a member of the Central Committee or CC made him directly involved in making Party decisions and in exacting disciplinary actions to erring Party members particularly against those who were suspected to have turned informants for the military.

In the mid 1980s, the series of successful arrests from the CPP ranks and their failed guerilla operations caused excessive paranoia in the movement so much so that the CPP hierarchy launched a wide scale witch-hunt for so-called deep penetration agents. Satur who was a member of the CC oversaw the implementation of a number purging operation such as Kampanyang Ahos and the Operation VD. These purging involved arbitrary arrests, executions and the conduct of massacres on several occasions.

Facts of His Arrest and Detention: Satur was first arrested by government agents on January 14, 1976 for subversion and was detained in Camp Olivas in San Fernando in Pampanga; Camp Capinpin in Laguna; Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City; Camp Crame in Quezon City; and, lastly at the Bicutan Rehabilitation Center until his escape on May 05, 1985 and subsequent return to the underground movement.

He was only again arrested by the government on July 27, 1989 and was detained at Fort Bonifacio with his wife, Carolina Bobbie Malaya, and was released on September 01, 1992.

He was free from May 06, 1985 until July 26, 1989 or 4 years, 2 months and 20 days, to be exact during which he went into hiding and returned to being deeply involved in the rebellion.

Inopacan, Leyte Mass Grave: On August 26, 2006, former NPA member Zacarias Piedad led army personnel to an area locally called as the “garden” in Sitio Sapang Dako, Barangay Kaulisihan in Inopacan town in Leyte to unearth the remains of hundreds of NPA members who were massacred and buried in the mass grave.

Piedad personally recounted that the order to kill suspected deep penetration agents from the NPA ranks was dubbed by the CPP Central Committee (CC) as “Operation Venereal Disease” or “Operation VD” for brevity and was officially signed by Jose Maria Sison, Luis Jalandoni and Satur Ocampo, who were all CC members during that time and was carried out in between 1985 to 1987 (link to account of victims of purging or the relatives of victims).

Excavated from the mass grave site were 67 severely mutilated skeletal remains most of which bear brutal marks of crushed skulls still wrapped with blind-folding cloth, signs of flesh-wounds and broken bones even before they were hammered-down with multiple bullet shots. The remains registered as the most painful in Philippine forensic history to include the fact that others were even buried alive while most were mutilated in pieces.

A living eye witness who was present during the tedious excavation recounted how Satur Ocampo went to Southern Leyte in 1985 and was seen personally seeing to the implementation of the CC directive to liquidate suspected spies within their movement.

Non-bailable Offense Made Bailable:

On March 16, 2007, Satur was arrested for his involvement in the Inopacan, Leyte purging by virtue of a warrant of arrest on a charge of multiple murder issued by regional trial court. However, on April 3, 2007, Ocampo walked out from his detention cell when the Supreme Court, acting on Ocampo's petition to annul the regional trial court decision, ordered his release on a cash bond of P100,000.00.

The Supreme Court decision was on the issue of Satur Ocampo posting bail but his case for multiple murder is still pending.

Elusive Justice: The families of the so-called Leyte mass grave victims are now feeling the perversity of our justice system as one of those accused in the mass killing was able to post a P100,000.00 bail to a non-bailable offense and with no corresponding explanation from the Supreme Court as to why he was granted provisional release.

By signing this petition, you are asking the Supreme Court to rethink its position and not to allow the legal institution to be used by a murderer. Also, for the Commission on Elections or COMELEC to bar the candidacy of Satur Ocampo as he is yet to pay for his crimes to our loved ones.

Please sign the petition.

Yours Truly,

The Unheard NPA Victims

Sincerely,
