SWS: Arroyo net satisfaction ratings drop to -32
More Filipinos particularly in the Visayas and Mindanao are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the performance of President Arroyo as the latest Social Weather Stations survey showed her net satisfaction rating dropping from -24 percent in December to -32 percent in February.
The Feb. 20-23, 2009 survey found 26 percent of Filipinos satisfied with Mrs. Arroyo's performance compared to 59 percent who were dissatisfied with her performance.
SWS said the President's latest net satisfaction rating is lower compared to poor -24 percent (29% satisfied, 53% dissatisfied) in December and poor -27 (27% satisfied, 54% dissatisfied) in September. Mrs. Arroyo's net performance rating hit a record low of net -50 in July 2008.
SWS said the decline in the President's overall satisfaction rating was due to worsening dissatisfaction in the Visayas and Mindanao.
Net satisfaction with Mrs. Arroyo became more negative in the Visayas, at bad -33 percent (28% satisfied, 61% dissatisfied) in February, from poor -14 (38% satisfied, 52% dissatisfied) last December.
Dissatisfaction with the President also worsened in Mindanao at bad -40 (22% satisfied, 62% dissatisfied) from poor -22 (31% satisfied, 53% dissatisfied) previously.
A total of 1,200 adults divided into random samples of 300 each in Metro Manila, the Balance of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao were interviewed for the survey. Sampling error margins were set at ±3% for national percentages and ±6% for area percentages.
Dissatisfaction high in Metro Manila
Dissatisfaction with the President remained high in Metro Manila, at bad net -44 (21% satisfied, 65% dissatisfied) in February, from bad -45 (19% satisfied, 65% dissatisfied) in December, and in Balance Luzon, at poor -24 (29% satisfied, 54% dissatisfied, correctly rounded), from poor -23 (27% satisfied, 50% dissatisfied).
Urban satisfaction with Mrs. Arroyo reached 26 percent in February, from 27 percent in December, while dissatisfaction went to 58 percent from 56 percent, putting her urban net rating to bad net -32 percent now, from poor -29 earlier.
Rural satisfaction with the President went to 26 percent from 31 percent, while dissatisfaction went to 59 percent from 50 percent, bringing her rural net rating to bad -33 from poor -19.
'Masa' expresses dissatisfaction
The President's net satisfaction rating became less negative in class ABC, at poor net -19 (27% satisfied, 46% dissatisfied) in February, from poor -28 (28% satisfied, 56% dissatisfied) in December.
However, dissatisfaction with Mrs. Arroyo worsened in class D or the masa, at bad -31 (28% satisfied, 59% dissatisfied) now, from poor -21 (30% satisfied, 51% dissatisfied) before.
It went to bad -42 (20% satisfied, 61% dissatisfied) in class E, from bad -31 (27% satisfied, 58% dissatisfied) before.
