Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita has confirmed that deputy executive secretary for legal, Manuel Gaite, will replace former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Jesus Martinez.
Martinez retired last week amid accusations of corruption after being linked to the Legacy mess.
He was accused by former Legacy officials of receiving cash and a house-and-lot in exchange for protecting Legacy owner Celso delos Angeles.
Gaite, meanwhile, is not new to controversies. He was linked to the multi-billion peso National Broadband Network (NBN) scandal.
Senate witness Rodolfo ‘Jun’ Lozada tagged Gaite as the one who gave him 500-thousand pesos when he was hiding in Hong Kong at the height of the NBN-ZTE Corp. controversy. -- report from ANC
