Binay to attend Pope Francis' inauguration
MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Jejomar Binay will leave on Monday for the Vatican to attend the inauguration mass of Pope Francis, which will be held on Tuesday, March 19.
“It is a rare opportunity to witness the installation of a new Pope, and I am honored to represent President Noynoy and the Filipino people to attend Pope Francis’ inaugural mass,” Binay said in a statement.
World leaders are expected to attend the inauguration mass as well.
Binay had earlier praised Pope Francis for his compassion for the poor.
“He reminds us that serving our fellowmen is a duty not only of the church, but of all Catholics. As he begins his Papacy, we pray that he will lead the Church with wisdom, humility, compassion and grace,” he said.
Binay has visited the Vatican three times, including a recent audience with Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. -- Report from DZMM
