Koko: Up to my wife to accept Zubiri apology
MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III said it is up to his wife to decide whether or not to accept the apology of former senator Juan Miguel Zubiri for saying that she is a "battered wife."
"He reportedly apologized to my wife so I don’t know. It is up to my estranged wife to accept or not to accept the apology if she thinks it is sincere," Pimentel said.
He said he has yet to hear an apology that is directed to him from Zubiri.
Zubiri earlier apologized to Pimentel's wife, Jewel May Lobaton, for revealing to the public that she was allegedly a battered wife.
He, however, said he was merely quoting her that she was a "battered wife."
"Let me assure the family that I did not say that she was physically abused by her husband. I merely quoted her statement that she was a battered wife," he said.
He noted that a battered wife could also be subjected to psychological, mental and verbal abuse.
Zubiri, meanwhile, urged Pimentel not to “lead a double life."
"Those of us who are offering ourselves to the people must prove that we do not have skeletons in our closets no matter how personal it maybe. We should not lead double lives," he said.
“Our public and private conduct should be beyond reproach and should be open to scrutiny, especially by the people. And we should be willing to answer difficult questions truthfully,” he added. With a report from The Philippine Star
