Bro. Mike looks forward to becoming congressman

MANILA, Philippines - El Shaddai leader and preacher Mariano "Bro. Mike" Velarde could end up with a seat in the House of Representatives after the May 10 polls.

Velarde is among the nominees of Buhay, which is running in the party-list race.

According to papers Buhay submitted before the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Velarde is the party's 5th nominee.

The first 4 are Mariano Michael Velarde Jr., Irwin Tieng, Ignacio Jimenez, and Willy Villarama, a former congressman.

The elder Velarde said that if Buhay wins 3 seats in the polls, the party-list group's other nominees may give way to allow him to become a congressman.

"Our nominees can vacate anytime their position," he said. "Number 4 and number 5 can take over."

He said he would welcome the opportunity to serve in Congress since he would like to push Buhay's stand against the passage of the Reproductive Health bill.

Bishop Teodoro Bacani, El Shaddai's spiritual adviser, agreed with the preacher, adding that he saw nothing wrong with Velarde running under the party-list system.

However, a Comelec official said Velarde must choose between being a party-list representative and a leader of a religious organization.

The law bars a religious organization from running as a party-list group.

"Magpo-provoke ito ng issue kung talagang ang grupong ito ay binubuo ng under-represented at marginalized (This could provoke the issue of whether or not his party-list is really under-represented or marginalized)," lawyer Ferdinand Rafanan, Comelec Law Director, said.

If Velarde becomes a congressman, he may conceivably end up vying for the speakership against President Arroyo, who is seeking a congressional seat in her home province of Pampanga.

When told of such a situation, Velarde laughed.

"That's a very nice speculation but I'm not after power," the El Shaddai leader said. "I'm only after for contributing something for the common good."

-GODBLESS PHILIPPINES-

even lucifer has some following

It is not surprising that people of questionable character can fool so many people. Mr. Velarde now wants to be in congress as stepping stone perhaps for his presidential ambition. Mr. Velarde, I have word for you. If you succeeded in fooling so many people, I guarantee you, it would be like expecting rain in hell to even entertain the possibility that people will elect you to become president. Have shame Mr. Velarde!

Mockery of Catholic Teachings

Laity’s Participation in the Life of the Church Taken too Far

The greatest mistake the Roman Catholic Church of the Philippines committed in recent history was when it acknowledged the El Shaddai as the legitimate lay organization.

When Mike Velarde had his tantrums and threats to leave the Catholic Church, the latter should have let it. It should have let the El Shaddai out of the Roman Catholic umbrella to establish itself as a cult. Church theologians should have stood firm and faithful to Roman Catholic Church traditions and dogmas instead of succumbing to political pressures exerted by people like Ted Bacani.

No time in the Church history that its teachings have been exposed to the heresies of Mike Velarde whose plain motive for the El Shaddai is to gain wealth at the expense of the poor.

The Catholic Church must analyze why a hoax like Mike Velarde emerge at this time. It must probe deeper into its evangelical teachings- and examine why it’s faithful blindly follow a heretic. There must be a void somewhere and a weakness of some sort in its leadership that makes its followers vulnerable to deception.

One day, the Roman Catholic Church may not realize that by not doing anything, it becomes party to its own destruction.

A pope once dreamed that a man will emerge to save the Catholic Church from its own and that man is St. Francis of Asisi. Maybe Church leaders have forgotten that crises in the life of the church is and what St Francis did to save it. We don’t need a modern saint, martyr or confessor. Maybe just a little logic behind a bugger prayer. May God save the Catholic Church from Mike Velarde.

Mockery Of God's Teachings

I can't help but feel sad how some preachers, nuns, priests and bishops blatantly make a mockery of God's teachings of love and unity in the guise of standing firm against what they percieved as evil and corrupt forces. God, whatever personification each and every religion have, has one and common teaching of love and harmony. Obviously, anything politics got nothing to advance to the latter's achievement. Whatever these supposed "holy people" are saying and doing about politics, has nothing but contrary to God's teaching. You have fooled nobody but yourself! Better prepare your alibi when it's time for you to cross that line.
