(UPDATE) Ateneo grad tops 2007 bar exams

The Supreme Court on Saturday released the results of the 2007 bar exams with a graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University topping the list of new lawyers who hurdled the examinations.


1,289 or 22.91% of the 5,626 law graduates who took the exams passed.


An initial report said that the top 10 passers were (or from school):


1. Mercedita Ona - Ateneo de Manila University


2. Jennifer Ong - University of the Philippines


3. Yvanna Maalat - Ateneo de Manila University


4. University of San Carlos


5. University Nueva Ceceres, Naga City


6. San Sebastian College


7. Ateneo de Manila University and University of the Philippines (tie)


8. San Beda College


9. Ateneo de Davao


10 UP and another university (tie)


The Supreme Court ahs displayed in LCD projectors the list of names at the Supreme Court front yard near its Padre Faura entrance. The results can be viewed simultaneously at www.supremecourt.gov.ph, the official website of the High Court.



Justice Adolfo S. Azcuna chaired the 2007 committee on Bar examinations.



A total of 5,626 law graduates from 109 law schools nationwide took the exams held on September 2, 9, 16, and 23, 2007 at the De La Salle University in Taft Avenue, Manila, according to figures from the Office of the Bar Confidant headed by Deputy Clerk of Court and Bar Confidant Ma.
