Mrs. Corona holds back tears, thanks supporters
MANILA, Philippines - Cristina Corona, wife of Chief Justice Renato Corona, held back tears as she gave the thanksgiving prayer in today's noontime special mass for the Chief Magistrate sponsored by Associate Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro.
The Chief Justice and Associate Justice De Castro were present during the mass -- the last in a series of fifteen.
Mrs. Corona expressed gratitude for the continued outpouring of support for her husband amid his impeachment trial.
"Chief Justice Corona and our family thank You, Lord, for Your grace, to accept the challenges thrown our way that in the midst of these we may plead for mercy, Lord, on us and our entire nation that we may become instruments of your love and peace," she said.
Mrs. Corona prayed for healing for the country. She said the trials the country is facing may be an opportunity for all.
"That our Lord may heal our distressed nation and raise the consciousness of our countrymen to see that this may be the opportunity to redeem ourselves in fulfillment of Christ's mission," she said.
Officiating priest Fr. Sonny de Claro, parish priest of Ermita, Manila said his message for Chief Justice Corona is one of prayer.
"Para sa ating CJ (Chief Justice), katulad ng aking binanggit kanina, manalangin tayo palagi, una at higit sa lahat, ang panginoon ang gagabay, ang panginoon ang lakas, at ang panginoon ang sa kahulihulihan ay dapat maghari," he said.
Fr. de Claro also asked everyone, including the media, to pray for the country amid these trying times.
"Ipagdasal natin ang ating bayan. I believe in the power of prayer, I'm a believer of prayer. Malakas kung tayoy sama sama sa panalangin," he said.
The weekday masses for the Chief Justice will resume in May.
