MANILA - Malacanang welcomes Singapore President Tony Tan Ken Yam for his four-day state visit to the Philippines.
Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said, "At the invitation of President Aquino, His Excellency Dr. Tony Tan Ken Yam of the Republic of Singapore will be arriving tomorrow morning for a four-day state visit. This is President Tan's first official visit to the Philippines and serves as a reciprocal visit to President Aquino's state visit to Singapore in 2011."
The two leaders will discuss cooperative activities in defense, trade and investment.
President Tan and his official party will offer a wreath in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Luneta Park on Thursday before proceeding to Malacanang, where a state luncheon is awaiting in his honor.
Tan will also meet with the Philippine-Singapore Business Council on Friday to strengthen trade ties between the two countries.
Singapore is the Philippines' fourth largest trade partner last year with total trade amounting to $8.22 billion.
Tan will also visit Tacloban, Leyte and Basey, Western Samar where he will turn-over medical supplies to the Basey District Hospital, which is the beneficiary of the joint rehabilitation project between the Singapore Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
