MANILA -- The attending doctors of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles have yet to set a date for her surgery at the Ospital ng Makati (OsMak).

In a press briefing on Friday afternoon, Ospital ng Makati medical director Ishmael Peralta said Napoles' personal doctors from St. Luke's Medical Center requested a review first of her test results before proceeding with the surgery to remove her ovarian cyst.

Peralta said they have transferred the care of Napoles to the St. Luke's team, which is composed of a total of 7 doctors.

He said they met with Napoles' main attending physicians, Elsie Badillo Pascua and Efren Domingo, at around 1 p.m. today.

"Sila ang may hawak ng baton. Sila ang directly involved in the care and treatment of Napoles," he said.

He said only one doctor from Ospital ng Makati will "actively participate" in the care and treatment of Napoles, while five others will just "monitor and observe" the procedures to be conducted on Napoles.

But Peralta clarified: "Hindi naman sa walang tiwala [si Mrs. Napoles] sa doktor ng OsMak... It's a matter of the right of a patient to choose his or her own physician."

If Napoles would be cleared for surgery, the procedure may be done on Sunday, Peralta said. He said they would then release the businesswoman's medical bulletin by Monday morning.

But if the St. Luke's team requests that Napoles still undergo additional medical tests, the surgery may not push through this weekend.

Peralta said Napoles is "doing okay," but her blood sugar level is still high.

Napoles will not be cleared for surgery until her blood sugar goes down, he said.

According to Peralta, Napoles may be discharged from the hospital as early as 5 days after her operation if the procedure will not have complications.

Meanwhile, Peralta said the operations of the hospital have not been affected since Napoles was admitted there late Monday evening.

He said the security of Napoles is the sole and primary responsibility" of the police, not of the hospital.

After her surgery and recovery, Napoles will be taken back to Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, where she has been detained for the serious illegal detention case filed against her by pork scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.
