Arroyo arraignment on graft charges set
MANILA, Philippines - The arraignment of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her husband, Mike, for graft charges involving the botched National Broadband Network- ZTE Corp. deal has been set for tomorrow, Wednesday.
Sandiganbayan Fourth Division clerk of court Joeffre Zapanta said the arraignment will be short. The case will be opened by the presiding judge at around 8:30 a.m.
He said the pre-trial maybe set a month after.
Also set to be arraigned is former Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos.
Meanwhile, the camp of former Transport Secretary Leandro Mendoza has asked for his arraignment to be deferred to May 11 since he is still confined in the hospital due to heart problems. The court will decide on the motion tomorrow.
Sandiganbayan sheriff Albert dela Cruz said security will be tight. Members of the Philippine National Police and the Quezon City Police District were tasked to control the crowd.
Coverage of the arraignment will be limited to several journalists. No cameras will be allowed.
