'Black ops' part of many poll campaigns
MANILA, Philippines - In the language of political campaigns, it's called black operations or black ops.
Black ops are a murky part of what is generally called negative campaigning or the use of damaging information about a candidate's opponent in an effort to turn off potential voters.
Whether they admit it or not, all campaigns have a negative component. But not all campaigns have black ops.
Black ops are the spread of false information about an opponent that could be damaging to them.
Unlike a conventional negative campaign, black ops don't have to be true.
When Barack Obama ran for president against John McCain, the McCain campaign spread the rumor that Obama was a Muslim in an attempt to turn off voters. That information turned out to be untrue.
In 2004, when Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ran against Fernando Poe Jr. (FPJ), reports that FPJ was actually an American citizen surfaced, and eventually, his citizenship was questioned before the courts.
It turned out that FPJ was a natural born citizen, but the damage was done.
And just last week, sources within the campaign of Manny Villar released information that Senator Noynoy Aquino had been treated for mental illness in 1996.
That report also turned out to be untrue. But before the report was debunked, it had spread on the internet and continues to be discussed even today.
Despite the fact that it was proven false, Villar on Saturday challenged Aquino on a radio program to rebut the false allegations.
"Kung wala naman eh di wala, at least itanggi niya na never ako nakipagkita sa isang psychiatrist at hindi ko kailangan ipakita ang results," Villar said in an interview on dzMM. "At halimbawa, totoo bang gumamit ka ng drugs na marijuana? Nakalagay doon na nag-marijuana siya noong bata siya. Totoo ba yun o hindi? At yung major depressive disorder, totoo ba yun o hindi?"
The Aquino camp says it will not dignify a false report.
But it's too early to tell what the possible effect of this will be. Will it hurt Aquino or will it backfire against Villar?
Whatever the case, black ops have been a fixture of many campaigns, and are not likely to go away.

It is true. His record in Indonesia state that, his policy state that as well and during the interview with CBS he mistakenly state that he is a Muslim. Those of you who think great of this man are blind. The man is the most radical US president we ever have and he is just a face of a few who wants the ultimate power.
Remember Pergamum.....this man has spent hundreds of Thousand$$ locking his record in Columbia University where he claim to attend and much the same in Harvard. Not one person has come up front from those years he claim he attended in school to vouch for him in both Universities. He claims to came from a poor family yet he can't produce any document to prove how he was able to afford Columbia and Harvard. Bamboozle we are and such is the way of the prince of all lies! who started it all?
The most important question that should be asked is: Who started it all?
It can be said, without fear of contradiction, that the LP camp and other presidential adversaries of Villar started it all even before the formal declaration of presidential candidacies, right? Villar never embarked on a negative campaign. He was just forced to answer the barrage of unending baseless attacks personal or otherwise.
In contrast, Noynoy embarked on a negative campaign and it's becoming dirtier every passing day. What made his black propaganda worst is that he is focusing his attacks mainly against PGMA, who is not even a presidential candidate. Meron pa bang mas masahol na black ops maliban sa ginagawa ni Noynoy? The reason why he is embarking on a negative campaign is that he has no accomplishment to flaunt. And, IN HIS OWN WORDS, black propaganda sells (what a shame!)
Finally, the number one media outfit used for Noynoy's black ops is abs-cbn where ironically you printed your report. Is this article in any way suggesting that black ops are normal in politics, hence, LAUDABLE??? WHAT AN IRONY...shame on you people!
