Satur loses 1st round vs Palparan in HARAPAN debate
MANILA, Philippines - Bayan Muna party-list representative and senatorial candidate Satur Ocampo lost the first round of debates against rival senatorial bet, Bantay party-list Rep. Jovito Palparan, in ABS-CBN's HARAPAN: Mga Isyu ng Bayan debates Sunday night at La Consolacion College in Manila.
The debate, the first ever of its kind among rival senatorial candidates, again made use of the Wireless Audience Response System (WARS), which polled audience response from 180 select viewers from Dagupan, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro and Manila.
Palparan, a former Army major general who was nicknamed "the butcher" for various human rights violations, fired the first salvo against Ocampo by asking the former co-founder of the National Democratic Front why he is quick to condemn the military and police for various human rights violations and slow to condemn atrocities committed by the New People's Army.
Ocampo said he has condemned various human rights violations in the country including the November 23 Maguindanao massacre allegedly committed by armed supporters of the Ampatuan clan. He also pointed out that the NPA punishes its members who are proven to have committed rights violations.
"Comparatively, in the last 40 years, in the reports of the Commission on Human Rights, the United Nations and the US State Department, the Armed Forces of the Philippines is the leading human rights violator when they should be the ones protecting human rights. Ang mga NPA kapag nakagawa sila ng paglabag, kanilang ina-acknowledge. Meron pong disiplina sa internal law na kanilang inaayos para panagutin ang mga nagkakasala," he told Palparan.
He also pointed out that violations committed by the NPA could not be investigated by both the government and the communist movement after President Arroyo suspended the Comprehensive Agreement on the Respect of Human Rights and International Law (CAHR-IHL).
Palparan, however, pointed out that Ocampo had yet to speak out against NPA atrocities committed in Davao and Samar, Leyte. "Kakaunti lang ba ang masasabi mong napatay ng NPA, na-masaker? All over the country, napakarami nilang napatay. Ni isa man lang dito, wala kayong kinondena. Ibig sabihin niyan, pabayaan natin silang pumatay nang ganun-ganun na lang? Accepted ba iyan sa iyo?" he asked.
He noted that there are many lawmakers sympathetic to the communist movement in Congress who could pass laws that would help the country.
For his part, Ocampo questioned why Palparan continued to accuse him of being a top CPP-NPA leader despite a Supreme Court ruling that cleared him of any links to the communist rebellion.
In response, the former Army official said he still believes that Ocampo is a top leader of the NPA and challenged the lawmaker to stop the atrocities committed by the rebel group. "In a democracy, we can craft programs that would avoid violence. Yun lang ang aming gusto dito. Na magbaba kayo ng baril at mag-usap-usap tayo at magkatulungan tayo," he said.
To which, Ocampo replied: "Hindi naman ako nagdadala ng baril ngayon eh. Siyam na taon na ako nasa Kongreso. Nagpasa ako ng mga batas para sa kapakanan ng mga mahihirap."
He reiterated that he does not support the armed struggle and that after being released from jail, he has dedicated his life to uphold people's rights in a legal manner.
After the first round, 73.7% of the WARS audience said they did not believe Ocampo while only 26.3% said they believed the Bayan Muna lawmaker.
On the other hand, 57.1% of the WARS audience said they believed Palparan while 42.9% said they did not believe him. David Dizon, abs-cbnNEWS.com

Kay Satur pa rin ako
Though impromptu debates normally yield quick answers to questions and does not exhaust the viewpoints of the person, nevertheless Ka Satur made himself clear on the ff. issues;
-he made himself clear that he is not endorsing nor any encouraging violent means (relation with the NPA)to save the chronically-ill Philippines as proven in his 9 years of dedicated service to people as congressman; he was also cleared by the Supreme court and the RTC in 2008 of a malicious multiple murder case fabricated by the Arroyo admin; while the berdugo has still need to face hundreds of cases of human rights violations which is rather known both in the international and the local communities,not perhaps during the stint of his great protector PGMA but in its opportune time.
-his alliance with the Villar camp is not based on gold but on principles and clear agreements with Villar's camp which is known to public thus transparent and verifiable; i guessed it was not an easy decision for Satur's camp the series of negotiations and transparent agreement made it so, thus Villar if he wins is accountable to this and Satur will always stand for it what has been agreed.

Tama si Ka Satur,wala nang ibang issue na maibato si Palparan kaya pati mga issue na hinusgahan na mismo ng korte suprema ay pilit ibinabato ke Ka Satur,gayung kung merong dapat managot hinggil sa issue ng peace n order or human rights violations yun ay walang iba kundi si Palparan,dahil si Palparan ay notified na berdugo ng bayan,at di na issue rito ung tungkol sa violations ng cpp/npa kung meron man dahil gaya ng sabi ni Ka Satur di na sya involved sa mga ito,kaya huwag nating ILIHIS ang TUNAY na issue.At tungkol sa hidwaan ng GRP-CPP/NPA,dapat matuto munang tumupad ang GRP sa kasunduan sa pagitan nila ng CPP/NPA at ito ay wala iba kundi ang Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law(CARHRIHL)na DI ino-HONOR ni Palparan.
Delusional Satur
Satur Ocampo should take a look at the countries with the most oppression; they are not capitalist, but left-wing countries. In societies with a significant degree of Capitalism, the standard of living is very high; while the Communist countries of old were collectivist slaughterhouses with a citizenry that had a standard of living fitting only a serf.
Good for Palparan for standing his ground and beating Satur Ocamp in the Harapan debates.

I watched harapan & I am so disappointed with the no. of participants na naniniwala kay mr.ocampo. naisip ko siguro di masyadong naintindihan ng mga tao ang mga punto ni satur. Pero ang hindi ko maintindihan (as of now) ay kung bakit mas maraming naniniwala kay Mr.palparan. Punong-puno ng katangahan ang mga punto ni palparan (kahit sa mukha niya makikita talaga).
Hindi ko masyado kilala si satur pero dahil sa harapan, I will definitely vote for him and never for palparan.
Doesn't really matter if kay Villar nakaline-up si Satur. Ang mahalaga may usapan silang matino na i-carry over @ i-put into action ang mga programa ni satur para sa mahihirap.

Sinong niloko mo? Taga Mindoro kami at nag kalat pa rin ang mga pesteng NPA na yan! Mga tamad yang mga yan! Instead na mag trabaho na lang tulad ng ginagawa ng mga tao dun eh walang ginawa kundi mang huthot ng makakain nila. Nun minsan nag matigas ang tatay ko. Ayaw nya magbigay ng bigas... kinaumagahan, kinuha ng mga salot ng lipunan na yan ang water pump ng farm ng tatay ko.

May karapatan ba ang NPA maningil ng campaign permit sa mga kandidato? Kung walang silang karapatan bakit hindi mo kinundina o pinatigil itong walang kahiyaang ginagawa ng NPA. Baka naman may share ka dito - obvious ba? Napakawalang hiya mo Satur Ocampo. Dapat ipakulong ka ulit.

Sabi mo Mr. Ocampo 'Ang mga NPA kapag nakagawa sila ng paglabag, kanilang ina-acknowledge. Meron pong disiplina sa internal law na kanilang inaayos para panagutin ang mga nagkakasala'. Alam mo may tiyuhin ako sa bicol (Sorsogon) na pinagbabaril ng mga kampon mong NPA, point blank sa harap mismo nang kanyang nagmamakaawang nanay at pamilya, sabog po ang kanyang mukha sa tama ng mga bala. Hanggang sa ngayon hindi po namin maintindihan kung anong pagkakasala ng tiyuhin kong isa lamang magsasaka.
sya nga pala , minsan nagugutom po ang pamilya ng tiyuhin ko dahil kinukuha po ng mga kampon mo ang pinaghirapan niya sa sakahan. Frankly, nagsisinugaling po kayo, kasi hanggang ngayon wala namang kayong pinanagut sa karumaldumal na krimeng ginawa ng mga NPA mo sa tiyuhin ko.
May mga puso din po ba kayong mga NPA?
