MANILA, Philippines - A Palace communications official admitted that traffic in Metro Manila is bad but quickly added that measures are being undertaken to improve the traffic situation.
“I do drive and I know that traffic here is pretty bad. I also know that there are a number of things that are being undertaken,” Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Secretary Ricky Carandang told reporters.
Carandang was reacting to CNNGo’s ranking of the Philippines as world’s third worst city for driving.
He said that the government is improving the road infrastructure and that better enforcement of traffic laws and discipline among drivers would be key to improve the traffic situation in Metro Manila.
“We think that improving the road infrastructure in Metro Manila will eventually improve the traffic. We also think that better enforcement by the MMDA, let’s say of kotong cops, colorum buses and jeeps will also lead to an improvement in the traffic situation,” Carandang said.
“We can also exercise a little more discipline in the road, myself included,” he added.
