MANILA, Philippines – Mayors and other local officials from Pampanga trooped to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) earlier today to belatedly celebrate former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's 65th birthday.

A mass was held before everyone shared lunch.

“Walang VIPs dito o mga former secretaries. Mga barangay captains ito at board members,” said Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo.

As a first-term congresswoman of the Second District of Pampanga, the former president can seek reelection or run for governor or even senator in 2013, as the court has yet to rule on her electoral sabotage case.

But Pelayo clarifies that politics was not discussed during Mrs. Arroyo's birthday party, not even the impeachment trial of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona, who is a known Arroyo ally.

Some of the former president's allies also distributed relief supplies to victims of a fire along Agham Road, which is near the VMMC.
