MANILA - A Palace official on Tuesday belittled the possibility of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile's former chief of staff, lawyer Gigi Reyes, turning state witness.

This, after Reyes returned to the country last week after leaving in the quarter of last year.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Reyes already denied involvement in the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam.

"So, how can one be a state witness when she denies...And in fact she pointed to her another staff member," Lacierda said. "So that doesn’t fall within the requirements of one becoming a state witness. She denies involvement at all. So you cannot be a state witness."

"So allegedly she says, it was her signature was there. I think Secretary Leila de Lima has already commented on that," he added.

Reyes supposedly received pork barrel kickbacks on Enrile's behalf from Janet Lim Napoles, according to witness Benhur Luy.

Luy claimed he delivered the kickbacks to Reyes.

Senator Jinggoy Estrada, one of the accused in the pork barrel scam, also believes Reyes won't turn state witness against them.

"Sa pagkakaalam ko, she (Gigi Reyes) is ready to face the charges against her," he said after his arrival Monday night at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport."Malabo siguro mangyari iyon na maging state witness si Atty. Reyes."

"She came here voluntarily. She is ready to face charges," Estrada said.
