Strike 2: New psych report on Noynoy also fake
MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) - A new version of a report on Senator Benigno Aquino III's mental health, released on Tuesday by a supporter of Nacionalista Party (NP) presidential bet Sen. Manny Villar, is also fake.
Jesuit priest Jaime Bulatao, who supposedly signed the report, denied writing or signing such a report. (Click here for Fr. Bulatao's letter.)
The second fake report on Aquino's mental health was distributed at a press conference by former National Power Corp. President Guido Delgado. (Click here for story.)
"It has come to my attention that an unverified 'psychiatric evaluation' allegedly signed by me in 1979 about the mental condition of Senator Benigno C. Aquino III is currently circulating in the news. I categorically deny having written and signed that report," Bulatao said in the statement he signed at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Bulatao founded the Ateneo de Manila University's Department of Psychology and the Central Guidance Bureau of Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) in 1961. He was also the president of the Psychological Association of the Philippines from 1979 to 1981.
Delgado, a supporter of Nacionalista Party (NP) bet Senator Manuel Villar Jr., distributed copies of the report on Tuesday morning but he stressed that he did not verify it.
“It is the media’s role to confirm its veracity,” he said in a press conference.
Delgado said his co-volunteer in the Villar camp received the Bulatao-signed second report in a packet last weekend. It had no return address.
The report, which was supposedly signed by Fr. Bulatao on August 9, 1979, claims that Aquino, who was then only a 19-year-old student of Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), was found to be “suffering from depression and melancholia," due partly to his father Ninoy's incarceration under the martial law regime of Ferdinand Marcos.
Previously, a bogus psychiatric report from the Ateneo psychology department on Aquino was circulated. It had factual errors, including the signatory, Fr. Carmelo “Tito” Caluag, who denied it as he was never a psychologist but a high school principal in the same school.
Caluag is also a Jesuit priest.
Desperate move?
Asked for comment, Aquino said Villar's camp is getting desperate because their survey ratings are going down.
Aquino also said Delgado could have verified the report before taking it to the media.
"Somebody of his credential should have at least tried to verify even a portion of it. But he comes out, he bursts it all out, I assume he's been prevailed upon by his candidate to do the same," Aquino told ABS-CBN News.
He admitted he knows Fr. Bulatao, who was his former professor at Ateneo, but said he has never gone through any such kind of psychiatric examination as alleged in the report.
Aquino’s campaign spokesman, Edwin Lacierda, said they have evidence that would show that the two reports were fabricated by the NP camp.
“Delgado simply cannot give the unverified documents that fell out of the sky to media then expect them to verify while the story is circulating the airwaves,” he said.
“He cannot just go to town and tell the public it is their obligation to verify his accusations. Villar and Delgado are making fools out of the media and the public. From the start, they have made moral and intellectual dishonesty the crux of their campaign. Are these the kind of people we would want to run our country?” he added.
LP campaign manager Florencio "Butch" Abad said it shows the NP’s desperation. But he’s confident that it will backfire on Villar.
“They’ve been throwing everything at Senator Aquino including the kitchen sink…Now they’ve brought out another kitchen…These are baseless accusations meant to counter the surging numbers of Aquino in all the pre-election surveys.”
“The public can see through these dirty tricks that Villar’s campaign has put out to the point of saturation. It reflects the sort of murky politics that has kept our country from progress,” Abad said. “We are confident that come May 10, the people will do what is right for our country."
Villar is trailing Aquino in pre-election surveys. In the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) pre-election survey conducted April 16 to 19, Aquino’s lead over Villar increased to 12 percentage points from just 9 points in March. (Click here to read article)
Villar denies involvement
Meanwhile, Villar denied he was involved in Delgado's release of the second fake report on Aquino's mental health.
"...Kami tinuturo, ayoko na, mahirap na, baka magamit ako, ayokong magamit sa isyu na ito. Hindi ko alam itong isyu na ito," Villarsaid at a press conference.
He claimed his camp had nothing to do with Delgado even though the former NPC chief has admitted being his supporter.
However, a policy adviser of Villar admitted to ABS-CBN News that it was the Villar camp which was behind the second document on Aquino's mental health.
In an telephone interview on ANC's Rundown Tuesday night, Prof. Prospero de Vera of the UP College of Public Administration said: "We received a document and a DVD purporting to be a report. We present it to the media for the media to investigate it."
Asked if he thought it might boomerang on Villar's campaign, De Vera said: "It is because we want the truth to come out. We don't want to be accused again. We are avoiding the possibility that media organizations who receive the material will again accuse the Nacionalista Party of starting this whole thing. That's why we are bringing it out in the open for the media to investigate it."
De Vera said there was nothing wrong with what Delgado did.
"The only thing that he did was to hold the press conference and bring out to the open the material that we received. What is wrong with that?"

Dapat talaga, Noynoy should come out in the open. He should tell the citizenry about the state of his health. Everybody can notice the mannerism of Noynoy Aquino in public, i.e., the way he speaks/talks, walks, the condition of his body, his mind, character, etc., he must be hiding something. That something must be exposed. More so, when he shamed Mar Roxas to forego his ambition by setting aside his Presidential ambition, and in so doing, permanently stopped the dream of Korina Sanchez to become, at least, the first lady of a Presidential Candidate. He did that by invoking the influence of his mother, late Pres. Cory Aquino, and even goes far in his infomercial in saying that, "SA INYO AKO KUMUKUHA NG LAKAS"! what does he mean when he said that, "MANG-AAGAW SI NOYNOY AQUINO NG LAKAS ?" . It is a very dangerous wording which cannot be taken for granted. His words could be interpreted as one who is a GAY Presidential candidate. We cannot afford a gay President to run our country. We need a firm, stable and strong President, and not a lameduck President.
We understand the traumatic experiences Noynoy undergone at the height of the 1987 coup de etat. I was informed that there is a slug still left in his head which was not removed by operation because of the delicate situation. Noynoy allegedly incurred this as a result of the straffing of the Malacanang Palace by helicopter gunships at the heights of the 1987 Coup de etat.
That is why, if there is such news such as the psychiatrist condition of Noynoy Aquino, the public must be informed. Now, we have this alleged psychiatrist report, what is he waiting for ? Show/Produce such copy, but if there is none, then take a psychiatrist examination. After all, Noynoy is running for President of the Republic of the Philippines. The public have the right to know the physical and mental condition of their President. There is nothing to hide unless something is really in need to be hidden so the public may not know. Under such condition, the public is forbidden to be informed of, and should not be able to discover, even by chance or luck, Noynoy's darkest secret of his PSYCHIATRIST REPORT". Otherwise, if the secret is discovered, the aftermath would be that it would detonate hard, far, and wide. Just like an atom bomb in Nagasaki, Japan, that would cause the demoralization of the entire Liberal Party slate...

What if the contents of the report is true and Noynoy IS nuts?
f the psychological report is true, then Sen. Aquino deserves nothing but sympathy and wishes for his full recovery. And my initial thought: Whoever released the report was contemptible. It was by all reckoning below the belt. And I correct myself: the issue can’t be called ‘mud’, it’s a giant wad of gooey, green-yellow phlegm.
But then again, what if Noynoy Aquino really is a depressive, what are the chances that if he does win as president, he won’t, well, lose control and plunge into deeper depression and this will influence all decision-making? Already there are clear signs that he has a streak of meanness, and he lacks patience when it comes to criticism and critics. What then?
What if the lackluster record as a congressman and senator was directly a result of his psychological state? Even his employment history was boring: he was a retail sales supervisor for Nike shoes; as assistant for promotions and advertising in Mondragon (a company owned by Mrs. Aquino’s friends); a vice president for a security agency; and a fields supervisor for Hacienda Luisita. This is hardly the employment history of an achiever — any headhunter worth his salary can see that.
I guess it’s not easy being the only son of Ninoy and Cory and the pressure to be exceptional must have been great when he was growing up, and imagine how low his self-esteem must’ve been whenever he heard insensitive people make comments that he was nowhere near being like his father or his mother? And imagine how it is to be an older brother to someone like Kris Aquino (the exact opposite of a manic depressive) who took easily to the limelight and hogged it whenever she could.
I officially feel sorry for Noynoy Aquino, but I’m still not voting for him. If anything, I have another reason why I’m not supporting him: I would much rather he left the race, went to Hawaii and planted pineapples, surfed, and learned to be bartender at one of the better hotels. The man needs to be happy. The people who goaded him into running (the likes of Franklin Drilon, Florencio Abad) and his columnist friends/fans (like Conrado de Quiros, Manuel Buencamino) don’t really care for him — a person, an individual –they only see what he supposedly symbolizes (but in reality cannot actualize). Can Noynoy deliver all that he is promising (the lines his propagandists are feeding him and making him memorize for his ads, for instance)? Or will he have a nervous breakdown when the going gets really tough?
I’m not being sarcastic here, but jeez, if he does have a conscience after all, imagine how he feels knowing that there’s blood on his family’s doorstep because of the Hacienda Luisita Massacre? That would throw anyone into depression and it would take at least a decade’s worth of therapy and medication to find a cure.
