Hontiveros criticizes radical leftists in NP camp

MANILA, Philippines - Liberal Party senatorial candidate Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel on Wednesday took to task members of the radical Left who have joined the camp of Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Manny Villar.

A proud member of what she called the “democratic Left", Hontiveros-Baraquel said she does not understand how known leftists such as Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocampo and Gabriela partylist Rep. Liza Maza could join the NP Senate ticket.

“They [Maza and Ocampo] have too easily swallowed the transactional politics that marks the Villar camp," she told ANC's "Headstart."

Hontiveros-Baraquel said that she will soon file a plunder case against Villar for a “sweetheart deal” on the land-grabbing case in North Sagaray, Bulacan, amounting to billions of pesos. She added that Villar represents “the continuation of lying, the abuse of power, [and] the corruption of the [Arroyo] administration."

The LP bet said the difference between the democratic and radical leftists groups is that their side does "not have an armed group that campaigns for them."

She noted that radical leftists defend the illegal activities of the New People's Army including the imposition of  "permit-to-campaign" fees on candidates.

She also claimed that the NPA seems to be campaigning for Villar after they started printing their permits to campaign on orange paper. Orange is the chosen campaign color of the NP and Villar.

She said even Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison has openly "endorsed" Villar.

Hontiveros-Baraquel said the people's desire for change pushed her to run for senator in the 2010 election.

A journalist for ten years and a member of the Akbayan party-list, the LP bet said her group is committed to working for change "through peaceful and democratic ways."

She added, however, that while she has distanced herself from Ocampo and Maza, she still considers them part of the leftist movement in the Philippines. “I still hope that the Left in the Philippines someday . . . ay magkakaisa," she said.

the radical leftists a..k.a. cpp-npa & the 'bayan (satur) muna'

as far as i am concern the so called radical leftist group has nothing to contribute to the development of the Philippines as a nation but rather confusion, harassment, terror and even (mass) murder technically similar to what the Marcos' government had politically committed during his regime and recently graduated to what the present 'abu sayyaf' people are doing for money. they simply used the common and poor peasants or the mass base, idealistic youth and elitist students in the universities and colleges, the young professionals and even religious persons to strategically enrich themselves especially the core; the so-called central committee members of the CPP-NPA party. there is nothing unusual and it is not shocking for them to join the party of villar as money is simply powerful that it can talk. but then they have a way of justifying their actions as a 'tactical alliance and strategic collaboration' to join the forces of villar for it is all about money, influence and power. after all, i happen to met somebody (no need to name names) who used to be the fundraiser for the cpp-npa and it was a first hand info to note how these people in the cencom together their respective wives, and even worse for they are not held accountable for the money they used, as corrupt as the big alligators in the government during the marcos era and today. that somebody was simply disgruntled upon learning how these people corrupted the party leaving its armed groups who came from the ranks of poor peasants to remain mendicants and to be content living in dire poverty (no wonder there is an alleged story in 70's & 80's that imelda marcos provided them new nike shoes to wear as they usually walk in the valleys and mountain ranges barefooted. this is basically the reason why they can easily graduate being armed as bandits or extortionist in the villages of the Philippine country sides.

Democracy?

Riza,

You are promoting democracy, right? So why are you questioning the judgement of other people? Don't they have the right to choose who they want to support and be aligned with?

While it is also your right criticize, I don't find it very constructive. In an unlikely case that you would win as a senator, would you still be focusing on criticizing other people for the whole duration of your term?

Why don't you focus on informing the public on what you are planning to do to constructively develop our country rather than mudslinging other candidates?

In that way, we may be enlightened on what you can do for our country.

Ano nga ba ang ikinabubuhay nila....e wala naamang negosyo ang mga yan?..Siyempre from the funds generated by the extortion arms ng CPP/NPA.
