MANILA – National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Eduardo Del Rosario has tendered his resignation, an official confirmed Tuesday.

NDRRMC spokesperson Maj. Reynaldo Balido Jr. said Del Rosario submitted his resignation letter to Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin last April 24.

According to Balido, Del Rosario cited the effect of his work as NDRRMC chief to his health as the primary reason for his decision to step down.

A Department of National Defense official told dzMM that Del Rosario also wants to spend more time with his family. His appointment as NDRRMC chief came shortly after his retirement as Philippine Army general.

Del Rosario, also the administrator of the DND's Office of Civil Defense, was appointed as NDRRMC chief by President Benigno Aquino III in February 2013, replacing Benito Ramos.

Del Rosario is the former commander of the 2nd Infantry Division and the former head of the Civil Relations Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

He also headed Task Force Kalihim, which handled search and retrieval operations for the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.

Balido, meanwhile, noted that Del Rosario, being a presidential appointee, can only leave his post once President Aquino accepts his resignation. – report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
