Palace to labor: PNoy mindful of 'inclusive growth'
MANILA -- A Palace official assured laborers that President Benigno Aquino III is working to address their concerns.
This, after the President gave no firm commitments on concerns raised by labor groups in a dialogue held ahead of Labor Day.
Reacting to statements of the Nagkaisang Labor Coalition, Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said, "These things are being discussed and let me just say that the President is certainly mindful of inclusive growth which should benefit all.
"One of our main statements is that nobody should be left behind. It was a frank exchange of concerns and views that the labor sector presented to the President and the President was very, very candid in his response. The President was very upright, forthright about what we can do for labor, and at the moment, what can be discussed further with labor."
"The discussion is going to take place insofar as what needs to be legislated—what needs to be done by way of legislation. He mentioned a certain bill that the President has—which has not moved in Congress," he added.
Lacierda, meanwhile, was evasive when asked if Aquino would have any surprise announcements during his Labor Day speech, merely referring to Aquino's dialogue on Tuesday when he was non-committal on their concerns.
