MANILA - A wellness center operator who once gave treatment to former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has denied the charges of illegal medical practice filed at the Tagaytay City Prosecutor's Office.

Lawyer Stephen Cascolan told ABS-CBN News that his client, Zoharina Antonia Pedrera Carandang also known as Dr. Antonia Carandang Park, is still in Manila and has no intention of leaving the country.

"She is still in Manila and has no intention of abandoning the cases filed against her," he said.

Several cases have been filed against Park, including one by the family of Ateneo de Manila cum laude graduate Kate Tan. The latter died last year allegedly after getting stem cell treatments from Park at her Tagaytay clinic.

Among Park's famous clients is former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who sought stem cell treatment for her spine disease.

Cascolan said his client does not practice as a doctor here in the Philippines.

She said Park will submit her counter affidavit on Tuesday, May 6, which is in response to another case filed by Dr. Eunice Abad.

Abad has accused Park of being a quack doctor.

Cascolan alleged the illegal medical practice complaint filed by Abad is tainted with malice. He said Park earlier sued Abad for estafa.

"Dr. Abad is using the illegal medical practice charges as leverage for the estafa cases with warrant of arrest," Coscolan said

He alleged that the medical bulletin presented by Abad in the case is fake and that Park's signature was forged.

He said 14 counts of perjury and intriguing against honor will be filed next week against Abad.

He expressed optimism that he can win all the charges filed against Park.

On the other hand, Cascolan admitted Park is not a registered physician with the Professional Regulation Commission.

He said Park only applies alternative medicines to her clients. He said she is also a nutritionist and recommends fruit juices to her clients.
