Cory Aquino nervous over surgery, says daughter Kris
Television host Kris Aquino said Sunday that like the rest of her family her mother, former president Corazon Aquino, is also nervous about her surgery scheduled on Monday.
“I’m sure also na kinakabahan siya kasi it's a major operation and sana po tuloy-tuloy niyo siyang ipagdasal na makayanan niya ‘to; [na] gumaling siya ng husto. Sana matapos na lahat ng paghihirap na pinagdadaanan niya,” Kris said on “The Buzz.”
Mrs. Aquino is set to undergo laparoscopic surgery to remove cancer cells from her colon after she passes some medical procedures.
Laparoscopic colon surgery is reportedly done by making small incisions on the abdomen compared to larger incisions needed in traditional surgical procedures. A laparoscope (a tiny telescope attached to a video camera) is inserted into one of the openings, allowing the surgeon to see inside the abdomen. Instruments are inserted through the other openings and are used to remove the diseased section of the colon and reattach the healthy segments.
The procedure reportedly usually lasts about two to three hours.
The television host said her mother has been battling the cancer for almost 14 months now. The former leader has undergone a series of chemotherapy sessions since she was first diagnosed with the disease on March 24, 2008.
“Nakita namin kung lahat ng pinagdaanan niya pero she really proved how strong she was because she never complained,” Kris said.
Kris said she and her siblings will take turns watching their mother as she recuperates from the surgery. She said she will be at the hospital during the surgery.
The actress also extended her gratitude to the people who are praying for the recovery of Mrs. Aquino.
“I think siguro sa milyon-milyon na Filipino na pinagdarasal siya, na patuloy siyang pinagdarasal, ‘yon siguro [ang dahilan] kaya siya nabibigyan ng lakas. Siguro dahil na din sa pagdadarasal na ‘yon hindi siya sumuko. Hindi siya nag self-pity ever because nakita niya so many people love her,” she said.
She said she will update the public about her mother’s condition on her daily entertainment show “SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon.”
