Pacquiao a legend in his time - Nograles
House Speaker Prospero Nograles on Sunday praised Philippine boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao after his spectacular second round stoppage against British pugilist Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton in the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Nograles, who flew with other congressmen to the US to watch the fight, said Pacquiao's victory silenced Hatton's boisterous British fans who came in droves to watch the fight.
The British flew here with so much band and noise and songs and cheers, all sound and fury signifying nothing. But after two minutes, they were shocked with the speed and power [of Pacquiao]. Mismatch really. Pacman from Mindanao is now a legend in his time. What else can the world say?" he said in a text message to reporters.
Pacquiao floored the Hitman twice in the first round before ending the fight with a hard left to the jaw that sent Hatton sprawling to the canvass. Referee Kenny Bayless looked at the unmoving Hatton and waved his hands to end the fight.
Nograles earlier said he does not mind being quarantined upon his return to the Philippines to prevent the possible spread of the dreaded H1N1 virus from Mexico.
“There’s no problem as long as the rule applies to all public and private persons who come from America and not selective only – whether high or low position in government,” Nograles said in a text message.
