FVR says ‘no’ to new Edsa Revolt

MANILA, Philippines – Former President Fidel V. Ramos does not support Liberal Party standard-bearer Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino’s call for another “People Power” if he loses the presidential elections.

The former president, who said he could not speak for the Church but only for retired military officers like himself, urged Aquino on Monday to consider using legal means first before launching another military-backed civilian similar to the one undertaken in February 1986.

“It’s not a good thing to hear, especially coming from someone like him,” Ramos said, referring to Aquino’s threat. “The chief of the local clergy has also spoken against it, too.”

Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales on Sunday said it is unlikely that Catholic bishops would support another People Power revolution in case of a massive failure of the country's first ever nationwide automated polls.

Rosales said he is confident that the use of Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines in the May 10 elections would limit cheating in the nationwide polls. He added that any failure of elections should not be blamed on the machines or the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

"Who will you get angry with? The machines? The Comelec? You should get angry with Filipinos who sell out their country for P5,000," he told reporters.

The archbishop said he does not support calls for a People Power revolt if no winner is proclaimed after the May 10 polls.

"No. For heaven's sake, there is the constitution. Why induce that to the present situation? Remember that time there was a dictator. That is crazy, crazy, crazy.  These are two different things. Whoever said that, I never heard it. That is very irresponsible thinking," he added. -- report from Chiara Zambrano, ABS-CBN News

@cefiro

The Church need to stay the fuck off from this all together. This is not their business and if they want to get involved which they are part of the freaking problem to begin with, then answer some of the close door dealing that they had been involve for years. This is why I'm no longer a freaking catholic. Those hypocritical bastards have more shit to answer to God in time of judgement.

BISHOP'S.......RENDER TO CAESAR WHAT BELONGS TO CAESAR! THIS IS NOT A CHURCH BUSINESS!

info pls

Can someone post the statement where Noy suggested and encourage another EDSA, other than a fair warning of the possibility? I'm just wondering if the article is being misconstrued by those who lacks comprehension or didn't read it well enough. If not, then perhaps you should give the man some credit for sharing his insight of the possibility that this could happen. After all, there are people who stand in more than losing an election in regards to motives in mind.

WHO CARES?

RACIST ROSALES (WITH FULL OF ANGER) AND FIDEL RAMOS WHO ARE AGAINST IT ARE THE ONE WHO STARTED THE REVOLT (IN 1986) TO BEGIN WITH? WHAT A BUNCH OF HYPOCRITES!

Where's the POWER?

EDSA-3 was not a declaration nor a threat by Noynoy or could any single citizen. What's up with Cardinal Rosales or former Pres.Ramos? Where's the POWER? Pilipino people just know what to do when the time calls for it and the slogan "TAMA NA, SOBRA NA" is still resonating today.

ANOTHER PEOPLE POWER?

Let us do it once more. If there will be rampant cheating in the results of the election or if COMELEC declares a failure of election in order to extend the term of office of the incumbent president. Let us show malacanan that we can not be cheated twice in our lifetime.

Another EDSA revolt won't

Another EDSA revolt won't help the current situation. The reason we have elections is because we are a free people. We have our own constitution to follow and uphold.

The Marcos regime is a vastly different situation than what we are in right now. Back then, human rights are almost non-existent and the things that we enjoy today like free information are just a dream. Though unconstitutional, there is a valid reason for a people power to remove a dictator and his family from further enriching themselves in power.

We don't have that kind of situation right now. And the Liberal Party calling for a People Power if they lose, is downright stupidity. Ramos is correct to advise Aquino to bring matters in court first before launching another revolt that could either send him or the country down to the sewers.

The Cardinal Maybe Out of Touch

The Cardinal maybe out of touch. If he thinks what is happening to our nation now is less grave than the days of Marcos' dictatorship, maybe he should reflect more to have a better discernment. Has he no idea of how elections were stolen in our presidential elections and how the present government failed to assure the people and the candidates, a credible and honest election? Are not these comparable to what happened in those days? Are there no people who get abducted and never heard of again? What about corruption? It is even more apparent now than during the Marcos Regime. It may even be better then because the Church, which most Filipinos rely their moral standards on, fights and sympathizes with them. Now, the Church, blames the Filipinos who accept money as big as 5,000 pesos from candidates--these Filipinos who became poorer in terms of their kitchen pots and moral choice--all more likely because of bad, bad, bad, governance. CORRUPT in simpler term. The Church failed to guide the Filipinos in their spiritual ascendancy because it failed short in molding them to have good moral values.
