Drilon: Senate will remain strong despite 'pork scam'

MANILA - Senate President Franklin Drilon said the institution will emerge stronger even if all senators will be dragged into the pork barrel scam.

Drilon believes the Senate is a bigger institution than all its 24 members combined.

“The Senate is an institution of democracy. We are a government of laws, and not of men. Kaya po politicians will come and go, but the Senate will remain strong. Ako po ay naniniwala kapag natapos na ang lahat na ito ay lalo pang lalakas ang Senado bilang isang institusyon sa ating burukrasya,” he told Senate reporters.

Until such time that the case moves in court, any list remains a list, he said.

“Simula pa lang, sinabi ko na payag ako na ilabas ang listahan, ngunit dapat naman ay may karapat-dapat na suporta. Kung wala itong suporta, iyan ay listahan lamang,” he said.

He said the elections are coming and a lot of political operators need to earn money.

He hopes his colleagues will be given an opportunity to defend themselves.

“Maingatan sana ang mga reputasyon ng mga kasamahan natin na on the line, and give them opportunity to defend themselves. But I assure you as the Senate President, we will follow the rule of law,” he said.

No one will be above the law, he promised, even as he denied once again he is part of the pork scam.
