Verzosa to resign once new president takes over
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Jesus Verzosa said on Monday he will submit his courtesy resignation on June 30 once a new president takes over from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Verzosa revealed his plan during the flag raising ceremony at Camp Crame, on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG).
He said he will submit his courtesy resignation to give the incoming president a "free hand" to choose the next PNP chief.
Verzosa is scheduled to retire on December 25, 2010.
He said the next PNP chief must have a good transformation program, which should include the modernization of the system, as well as the increase of recruitment of police personnel.
He also said he is ready to work on the transition whoever will be appointed as his successor. Report from Gus Abelgas, ABS-CBN News
