The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday announced four new confirmed cases of influenza A (H1N1) virus infection, bringing the total of confirmed cases in the Philippines to six.

"There are four new confirmed cases of influenza A(H1N1) virus as of May 27, 2009. These are laboratory-confirmed cases," DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III announced at a press conference.

He said health authorities are expecting more H1N1 infections as they thoroughly trace the contacts of the persons infected.

Duque said the four new confirmed cases include two children and two adults.

He said both children have history of travel to Hong Kong and United States, while the two adults are "contacts of confirmed cases of Taiwan."

The DOH earlier said it was waiting for the flu test results of eight people who attended a wedding party in Zambales, which was also attended by a woman and her daughter, who both tested positive for the dreaded influenza virus in Taiwan.

The four new cases brought the number of confirmed infections of the dreaded virus in the Philippines to six. The two earlier cases include a 10-year-old Filipino girl who travelled in the United States and Canada and a 50-year-old Filipina balikbayan from Chicago.

The two have recovered from the viral infection.
