MANILA - Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales’ recent statements further prove her bias against the accused in the pork barrel scam, the lawyer of Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. said.
In a statement, lawyer Joel Bodegon slammed Morales for prejudging the cases even before one could be filed at the Sandiganbayan.
“You don’t talk like that. She makes it appear that there is no longer a need for trial. How can we expect fairness sa ginawa nilang imbestigasyon?” he said.
In a town hall meeting in New York last week, Carpio-Morales was quoted as saying that there is sufficient evidence to prove the guilt of Revilla and Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggoy Estrada.
He said the Ombudsman even denied their pleas to be furnished all copies of the counter-affidavits filed by the respondents. The Ombudsman supposedly told them there was no cogent reason to do so.
Of the 19 counter-affidavits requested, only 6 were given to Revilla’s camp, Bodegon said.
Denied, sabi ng Ombudsman,” he said.
He noted Carpio-Morales is also snubbing the Malampaya fund scam, which also tags members of the administration.
"It's curious that she is so focused on this [pork scam], to the point of ignoring the Malampaya Fund Mess. Is it because that involves members and allies of the administration?"
