MANILA - Several colleges and universities in Manila have disinfected their facilities in time for the opening of classes on Monday.

Among the schools that have cleaned up are De La Salle University (DLSU), University of Sto. Tomas (UST), Far Eastern University (FEU), and University of the Philippines (UP).

The DLSU earlier postponed the opening of its classes after several of its students got infected with influenza A(H1N1) from one of its foreign exchange students.

“Sa Lunes, may ipapamigay na alcohol sa students at mga pin as campaign. Kung may sakit, stay home. It's a community responsibility,” said Josemari Magpayo, Executive Director of DLSU’s Marketing Division.

He also assured that students who will be forced to stay home because of A(H1N1) will be given a chance to catch up with their lessons and examinations.

FEU officials, meanwhile, said that they will check every student who will enter their campus to weed out those suffering with fever.

This, however, may not be enough to quell the fears of students.

“Ang dami na kasing cases dito,” said one FEU student.

“Nakakatakot din kasi airborne yung sakit,” said another student. -- With a report from Wheng Hidalgo, ABS-CBN News
