MANILA - Caloocan Rep. and Liberal Party member Edgardo Erice believes it is time that the Liberal Party and the United Nationalist Alliance part ways.
Speaking on ANC's Headstart, Erice questioned the loyalty of UNA to their coalition with LP, saying UNA has been quietly trying to pirate members from LP's ranks.
"May sinasabi si Toby (Tiangco) na marami sa mga LP na nakausap niya, nakabulungan niya handa nang lumipat. So we are partners. Sila ang nang-iintriga di ba? Biruin mo pina-pirate mo yung members ng LP, o kahit nga hindi pina-pirate, intriga yan e di ba? Kaya nga I will be filing a bill, I filed a bill against political dynasty. Now I will be pursuing a bill against political turncoatism," he said.
Erice also denied being the LP's attack dog against the Binays.
He denied he singled out Congresswoman Abigal Binay as he questioned how she used her priority development assistance fund (PDAF) allocations over the past few years.
He said the purpose of his recent privileged speech was to defend the Liberal Party and call for the congresswoman to address the questions raised against her.
For his part, UNA spokesperson and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco said Erice devoted 15 out of 20 paragraphs of his speech to attacking the Binays.
He said Congresswoman Binay has already answered the allegations.
He also questioned why Erice failed to interpellate her during her privileged speech.
He also dismissed Erice's call for the resignation of Vice-President Jejomar Binay and defended his loyalty to President Aquino and his family.
"Bat mo pinapagresign yung pinakamataas ang performance, approval and trust rating? Ibig sabihin natutuwa ang mga tao dun sa trabaho niya. Bakit hindi niya tingnan kung sino yung pinakamababa ang approval rating, yun ang pag resign-in. Yun ang tama,' he said.
"All his life especially during the 1989 coup kung saan binaril si Pangulong Noynoy hindi lang kulay ang ipinakita niya. Buhay ang itinaya ni VP Binay. And even after naging presidente si Cory Aquino, hindi siya umalis and he remained loyal," he added.
Erice, meanwhile, said he will leave it to the Commission on Audit to file charges against Congresswoman Binay over the questionable use of her PDAF.
