Poll fraud witness lying, GMA lawyer says
MANILA, Philippines - The camp of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Thursday accused Norie Unas of fabricating his testimony against Arroyo to save himself from criminal prosecution.
Unas, on direct examination before the Pasay Regional Trial court, said he overheard Arroyo tell his principal, former Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr., to ensure the victory of the administration candidates in the 2007 elections "kahit ayusin o palitan nyo ang resulta."
Arroyo's legal spokesman Raul Lambino, said in a statement that, "the phrase 'kahit ayusin o palitan nyo ang resulta' is a mere afterthought just to pin the former President."
"It should be noted that he admitted during the hearing that he feared being implicated in the case, which made him decide to come out and testify," Lambino said.
"Unas' testimony as expected is nothing but hearsay! He said he just overheard GMA give out 12-0 instruction to Ampatuan," he added.
