MM under Storm Signal No.2 as ‘Feria’ passes through Visayas

MANILA - The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has hoisted Public Storm Signal Number 2 over Metro Manila, Southern Luzon and a large part of Visayas due to bad weather brought on by Tropical Storm "Feria (international codename Nangka)."

Aside from Metro Manila, PAGASA, in its 10:45 p.m. update on the tropical storm , raised Storm Signal No. 2 over the areas of Luzon provinces including Masbate including Ticao island, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines provinces, Catanduanes, Marinduque, Romblon including Burias island, Southern Quezon, Mindoro Provinces including Lubang Island, Batangas, Laguna, Cavite, Bataan and Rizal.

Areas of Visayas under Storm Signal No. 2 are Samar island provinces, Northern Leyte including Camotes island, Biliran Island, Northern Iloilo, Northern Negros, Northern Cebu, Aklan and Capiz.

Meanwhile areas where PAGASA has raised Storm Signal No.1 over Northern Quezon including Polilio island, Calamian Group including Cuyo island, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecijia, Aurora and Pangasinan. While the same storm warning signal is raised over areas of Visayas namely, Southern Leyte, Bohol, Rest of Cebu, Rest of Negros, Guimaras, Southern Iloilo, Antique, Siquijor. PAGASA also raised Storm Signal No. 1 over the areas in Mindanao: Surigao Del Norte including Siargao island, Dinagat island and Camiguin.

PAGASA said that as of 10 p.m. Tropical Storm Feria has passed Northern Samar and is estimated to be in the vicinity of Masbate province with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center. The country’s weather agency said the storm was moving west northwest at 22 kilometers per hour.

It said it forecasts the storm to be at 90 kilometers west of Iba in Zambales province by Wednesday evening and at 290 kilometers northwest of Laoag by Thursday evening.

Suspension of classes

The Department of Education had earlier reminded the public of its guidelines on the suspension of classes.

Under its guidelines, classes in pre-schools are suspended in areas where Storm Signal No. 1 have been raised. Classes in elementary and high school levels are automatically suspended in areas where Storm Signal No. 2 have been declared.

Local officials however may declare suspension of classes depending on conditions on their localities.
