MANILA - Malacañang officials are now dodging questions about President Arroyo's plans, but not her son, Pampanga 2nd district Rep. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo.
Mikey didn't shoot down the speculations. On Wednesday, he admitted his political plans will depend on whether or not his mother would run for Congress in 2010.
"I'm gearing up for my reelection bid. But if and when she files her certificate of candidacy, we'll talk again. As of now, wala pa naman," Mikey told reporters after a meeting of the Lakas-Kabalikat ng Mamamayang Pilipino-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-Kampi-CMD).
"Lahat naman tayo nagmamahal sa magulang," he added.
Mikey is the incumbent congressman of the the 2nd district Pampanga, the post that President Arroyo is rumored to be eyeing in 2010.
Asked to comment on the speculation, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said also after a meeting of the ruling party, "We cannot discuss that. Only the president knows her political plans."
"That is pure speculation," added Prospero Pichay, Lakas-Kampi-CMD vice president for membership. "The president has not announced [her plans]. I'd rather not dignify that."
"They can speculate. At the end of the day, no one can read the mind of the President," he added.
Pichay was appointed on Wednesday as chair of the ruling party's reconciliation and unification committee. He was tasked to arbitrate conflicts in local positions.
The second district of Pampanga is also rumored to be eyed by another administration ally Senator Lito Lapid, whose term expires in 2010. He is, however, eligible for a second term.
