'Protracted battle' for Jinggoy's motion for bail set
MANILA - The motion for bail of Senator Jinggoy Estrada will be initially heard on Friday.
Analysts said the public should already expect a long protracted battle for the bail plea, which could hamper the trial proper.
Estrada’s camp filed the motion hours after the Sandiganbayan issued a resolution finding enough basis to proceed with the plunder and graft complaint filed against him.
Estrada surrendered even before he was served the warrant.
At the Camp Crame Custodial Center, he was welcomed by Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla who himself surrendered Friday also due to the pork barrel scam.
The detainees are allowed to roam around the compound and stay at a common area before night fall, when they will be locked in.
Estrada was at his home in Corinthian Gardens when he and his family received news of the Sandiganbayan’s issuance of a warrant of arrest.
“Mabigat mawalay sa pamilya. Masakit dahil walang dahilan. Kung ikukulong ako, ikinulong na sana lahat ng mambabatas na nag-endorse,” Estrada told reporters.
