'Noynoy-mania' hits Manila
MANILA, Philippines - With just a few days remaining before the next president is sworn into office, merchandise featuring President-elect Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III has spread in stores--and even on cyberspace.
US President Barack Obama sparked Obama mania before his inauguration in 2009 when T-shirts and other memorabilia with Obama's image became in-demand in the US and even in the Philippines.
Now, President-elect Aquino is enjoying the same popularity.
Noynoy souvenirs have become hot-sellers.
In Binondo, there are various Noynoy T-shirt designs to choose from, such as a yellow T-shirt with Obama's motto "Change".
There's also one with Noynoy's historical TIME magazine cover.
Each shirt costs only 69 pesos.
"Sana ito'y magbibigay pag-asa sa bawa't Pilipinong nangagarap ng pagbabago," said buyer Rodil Asuncion.
Noynoy memorabilia can also be found in Internet sites like e-Bay, including Noynoy inaugural watches with different colors and designs.
For many, having these souvenirs is a way to be part of Philippine history.
