MANILA - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima is perplexed at the decision of the Sandiganbayan to deny the bid of the Ombudsman to amend the information filed against Senator Bong Revilla for plunder, in connection with the pork barrel scam.

De Lima said it is within the right of the prosecution to amend the information prior to arraignment.

De Lima also doesn't think the denial is an indication that the information against Revilla is weak.

“I don’t think so. Sa tingin ko naman, iyan pananaw ng Ombudsman, they have not changed theory of the case, the essence, purpose ng Ombudsman. Kung bakit gusto i-amend is lalong maging klaro any ambiguity na pwedeng makita ng mga mabusising counsels for the accused," she said. "As to whether or not it affects strength of the case, I don't think so," she said.

“Di ko rin maiwasan mag-comment na I'm just puzzled bakit ide-deny. Dakit dineny ng division iyung proposal to amend?" she said. "It is elementary under rules of court na before arraignment, it is a matter of right for the prosecution to amend whether formal or substantial amendment. So bakit 'di pinayagan?"
