MANILA - After being admitted into the government's Witness Protection Program, former police officer Cezar Mancao will now be transferred to a safe house.

Mancao had been staying at the National Bureau of Investigation headquarters in Manila since he was extradited to the Philippines from the United States last June 4.

Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera said Mancao and his family will be moved to a safehouse for their protection.

Mancao, who wants to turn state witness in the Dacer-Corbito double murder case, had executed an affidavit linking Senator Panfilo Lacson to the killings.

Lacson has denied the charges.

Aquino hearing reset

Meanwhile, the extradition hearing of Michael Ray Aquino, a key suspect in the killing of public relations man Salvador ‘Bubby’ Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito, which was scheduled to begin Thursday (in Manila) has been postponed indefinitely.

Aquino's lawyer Mark Berman said the hearing was postponed as they wait for the court's decision on the possibility that another suspect, Glenn Dumlao, will be compelled to at least give a deposition for Aquino's extradition hearing.

Dumlao dropped his appeal to stay in the United States last month, saying he is prepared to go home to face criminal charges against him in connection with the double murder case.

There is no ruling yet on whether Dumlao will be asked to testify by the District Court of New Jersey.

But Berman said there are plans to transfer Dumlao to New Jersey from California, where he has been detained. -- report from ANC
