Drilon: No plans to change career paths
MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Franklin Drilon on Wednesday said he has no plans of changing career paths after being nominated for the position of Chief Justice.
Drilon said he declined the nomination out of delicadeza. He said that as a senator-judge in Chief Justice Renato Corona’s impeachment trial, he does not want people to impute malice and think he voted to convict Corona so he could replace him.
“Out of delicadeza, even if it’s a lawyer's dream to be there especially Chief Justice - my delicadeza told me they might attribute motives other than sufficient evidence to convict the former Chief Justice,” he told ANC.
He also noted that he has always been an executive, having held various positions in government including justice secretary, executive secretary and Senate President.
“At 67, changing your job or career path is not something you look forward to,” he said.
Drilon said he wants to continue a major project in his province of Iloilo specifically the construction of a mega dam worth P11.2 billion.
