MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang said the proposal to move the opening of classes to September is still being studied.
“At this time, we don’t have a definitive stand on the matter. Pinag-aaralan pa,” Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.

He reiterated the statement of Education Secretary Armin Luistro, who said the Department of Education is studying PAGASA data on weather patterns.
“We are discussing with PAGASA data on weather patterns the past years to [be] able to make a more evidence-based decision on whether it is wise to move the opening of the school year to September. We are looking also at the effect of summer heat on classes,” Luistro said.

DepEd earlier ordered public school officials across the country to submit records of class suspensions due to bad weather for the past 10 years.

Last year, Cavite Representative Lanie Mercado-Revilla filed House Bill 4895 seeking a September class opening. She said the June class opening leads to many class suspensions since it is timed during rainy season.
