The Jesus is Lord Church (JIL) has offered prayers for former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino who is battling colon cancer at the Makati Medical Center.
JIL founder Bro. Eddie Villanueva said they have released an instruction for its congregation in all chapels nationwide and in other countries to “intercede for President Cory’s healing and blessing.”
“I felt a few days ago it is a really duty to God to celebrate for her, to sincerely pray for her because historically Ninoy Aquino and President Cory Aquino were called and chosen by God for a divine purpose in initially liberating our country form the bondages of dictatorship and bondages of the so called powers of darkness,” Villanueva shared.
“So I just did what the Lord has put in my heart and I believe that it is the duty of every Filipino,” he added.
Villanueva was at the pray over held at the Music Museum in Greenhills in San Juan City where he led the special prayer for Aquino.
Also present at the JIL pray over were former agriculture secretary Philip Juico and his wife, Margie, as representatives of Aquino and her family.
Juico said he was overwhelmed during the pray over. “We’re very happy we’ve been relieved. Parang ang feeling ko meron ng healing that’s continuing to take place.”
“We're very appreciative of this although we’re just representing the president and her family,” he added.
“We were very touched because you know the president and Bro. Eddie are both men and women of courage and faith,” Juico noted.
Meanwhile, Villanueva also revealed that he has sent a letter expressing his desire to pray for Aquino personally. But according to him, doctors have instructed visitors not to enter Aquino’s room.
He then urged Filipinos to “fervently pray for President Cory and for our country.”
Villanueva mentioned the power of prayer. “Well I believe God is not limited by distance, space and even time. He is sovereign.”
On July 1, reports surfaced that Mrs. Aquino was in serious condition at the Makati Medical Center.
Her friends and supporters then began a novena mass at the Greenbelt Chapel.
The same day, her son, Sen. Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino released a statement saying his mother had to be confined due to a fluid buildup in her stomach that has made it difficult for her to eat.
On the second day of the novena, former President Joseph Estrada and family, former House Speaker Jose de Venecia, and some of Aquino's former Cabinet officials attended the novena mass.
Since then, support and prayers have continued to pour in nationwide and from Filipinos abroad.
Some of their messages and fervent hope for Mrs. Aquino's recovery were posted in her website.
On Friday, July 3, good news greeted the nation, as Aquino's grandson said the former President was generally okay and was even able to hear first Friday mass inside her hospital room.
Even in her ordeal, Mrs. Aquino remains an icon of democracy and a symbol for love of country. With a report from Israel Malasa, ABS-CBN News
