MANILA - Former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada is elated over the statement of Vice President Jejomar Binay that Sen. Jinggoy Estrada is still among the contenders for the vice presidential candidate of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) in 2016.

“I am thankful for that,” Estrada said.

He said Justice Secretary Leila De Lima has prejudged Jinggoy’s case when she claimed that there is “slam dunk” evidence against him and the other senators charged with plunder in connection with the alleged misuse of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).

Estrada said De Lima’s statement tend to show that Jinggoy is guilty.

“The court has yet to hear his case. She (De Lima) is a lawyer. She should remember that a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty,” he said.

UNA secretary general and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco earlier said Jinggoy wants to run for vice president to vindicate himself.

Tiangco said Estrada wants his name cleared more than pursuing his political ambitions for now.

Binay earlier said he is still open to tandem with Jinggoy.

“All are in the list. We are open to that matter,” Binay said.
