MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay plans to hold office at the Coconut Palace in Pasay City.

Binay wants to move the Office of the Vice President from the Philippine National Bank (PNB) Financial Center also in Pasay, as the lease for that building ends this July.

He said government can save more with the move, instead of paying an P800,000 monthly rent to PNB.

Binay added the Coconut Palace has more space than his current office at the PNB, and is more accessible.

The Coconut Palace was built as a guest house of former President Ferdinand Marcos.

Binay said he has asked permission from President Benigno Aquino, who reportedly agreed to his plan.

But Malacañang said Binay should make his request to Congress, which will allot a budget for the expense.

On his earlier plan to hold office at the old Makati City Hall building, Binay said traffic is worse in Makati than in Pasay, so it might be better if his office is in Pasay.

He added that the Coconut Palace also does not need to be repaired unlike the old City Hall building of Makati. - ANC

VP Binay

It looks like the VP will be more busy than the President that he wants the Coco Palace. Not a bad idea. He earlier planned on utilizing the old Makati City Hall but changed his mind as traffic in that area is worst than Pasay. So he opted to use the Coco Palace instead. Good idea. He was also concerned about the monthly rental of the PNB Office - will living in the Coco Palace save money for the government? I don't think the traffic in Makati will be any problem to him as, unlike the President, he ignores red lights and will turn on any streets that has No Left/Right turn signs. He seems to have so many plans as VP and everyone notices how demanding he has become. God Bless President Noynoy!
