Cory Aquino not refusing chemo, treatment - Kris
MANILA – Television host-actress Kris Aquino on Sunday disputed reports which said that her mother, former president Corazon Aquino, had refused treatment and chemotherapy.
Kris said her mother, who is battling colon cancer, has never refused chemotherapy and medical treatment.
“Hindi lang kaya ng katawan niya at this point… ang chemo kailangan malakas [ang katawan mo]. Hindi mo naman pwedeng ipilit to somebody who is very weak,” Kris said on “The Buzz.”
Mrs. Aquino remains hospitalized at the Makati Medical Center. The former leader had to be confined due to a fluid buildup in her stomach that made it difficult for her to eat.
“It's a rollercoaster. There are days talaga na naiiyak kaming lahat. There are days na naghuhugot kami ng lakas. There are days that we just surrender everything to God,” she said.
On Sunday various healing Masses in different parts of the country were held for the former president. These were attended by thousands of her supporters, including Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay, who were all praying for her recovery.
Kris said a Mass was also held inside her mother’s room Sunday. She said Mrs. Aquino was happy to know that “collectively” people were praying for her recovery.
“Naluha ang mom, but I feel it's tears of joy. Kasi parang iyong feeling siguro na ang dami dami talagang nagmamahal [sa kanya],” Kris said.
She said her mother is fighting her illness not only for her children but for the country as well.
“Nararamdaman din niya na tayo as a country, we’re not really ready to let her go; that we still need her very much,” she said.
She said that her family knew from the start that there is no cure for colon cancer. She added that like any other family, however, hers is also trying everything in order to extend her life.
A stronger Kris, however, said, although it is not bad to ask miracle, it is also fitting to surrender her mother’s fate to God.
“Give everything to God because God is the one who knows what is best. Collectively, if you’re praying for mom to be healed, thank you very much. But maybe all of us should pray, ‘God give us acceptance [to accept your] will,” she said.
“Nabawasan ang lungkot [namin] dahil kasama namin kayong lahat. Thank you for loving my mom... thank you for sharing our love for our mom with us. Thank you,” she added.
