MANILA, Philippines - Around 60 incumbent and sectoral leaders took their oaths with the Liberal Party (LP) of President Aquino on Friday.
LP spokesman Rep. Erin Tañada said the inclusion of new members will boost the chances of LP senatorial bets in the 2013 election.
"We know the elections does not only entail election at the local level but also national level so we need more foot soldiers on the ground," Tañada told ANC.
He added: "These local offical s and members will help make sure that our administration senatorial ticket will win in the upcoming 2013 elections."
Tañada said talks for a coalition with the Nacionalista Party and Nationalist People's Coalition are still ongoing.
The proposed LP-NP-NPC coalition is seen to counter the United Nationalist Alliance of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino of former president Joseph Estrada and Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban of Vice-President Jejomar Binay.
He denied that all 12 senatorial slots in the administration ticket will be filled by NP and LP candidates. He said he is one of up to 30 possible candidates being considered for the senatorial ticket.
"I think the re-eelectionist senators will have no problem with the administration ticket. Those applying for the remaining slots, that is where the discussions will proceed," he said.
