MANILA - Filipino food will be served as refreshments to guests at the House of Representatives on Monday during the State of The Nation Address (SONA).

The Plaza will be the caterer again this year, and they are expected to serve various dishes of ham, pan de sal, kakanin, pancit, calamansi and dalandan juices.

The menu is still being finalized but there will be some pasta dishes for non-Filipino guests.

House of Representatives secretary general Marilyn Barua Yap said the food will be served in bite-sized or "picapica" servings.

Food alone is expected to consume a big chunk of the P2.2 million budget for the SONA.

Aside from the food and physical arrangements, the security preparations are also in place.

Access to the plenary hall will be on a strictly "by invitation only" basis.

Access to certain areas in the Batasang Pambansa complex will depend on the color code of the IDs that will be issued.

Security will be very tight during the event.

While there is no direct threat, Yap said they are prepared for anything.

The session hall is also being repainted while roof leaks are being patched.

As many as 1,000 people are expected in the complex for Monday’s events.
