MANILA - Palace officials are not required to wear the yellow ribbon icon of President Benigno Aquino III when he delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday before the Joint Congressional Session.

The statement was made by Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte, who had a yellow ribbon pinned on the left chest portion of her dress before Palace reporters on Friday.

"Hindi, hindi kami required. These are my old ribbons from the [2010] campaign. I still have my old baller bands from the campaign. Remember that I was part of the campaign as well. So I have my old things," said Valte.

She said even Cabinet members have their yellow ribbon pins with the Philippine flag, but they are not required to wear one.

In fact, she will not wear yellow but will have a white dress when she attends the President's SONA on Monday, she said.

"Malaya naman lahat. Everyone is free to wear the color that would flatter their figures, let's put it at that. But, no, ako hindi naman yellow iyong barong ko," Valte said.

During the Daylight Dialogue in Malacañang last July 15, Aquino asked his "bosses" to show their support for his administration by wearing yellow ribbons.

Yellow has been the political color of the Aquinos.
