MANILA - Fans of former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino left numerous messages of support and prayers on http://coryaquino.abs-cbnnews.com over the weekend up to early Monday afternoon.

Site visitor Nenette was one of many who expressed messages of love and admiration for Aquino, who has been hospitalized for over a month for colorectal cancer.

"We love you, [former[ Madam President. You are the epitome of a true Filipino woman. There is no doubt that you love us and our nation. You have done and sacrifice[d] enough for all of us. Thank you,” she said.

In light of Monday's State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, some online users could not help but compare the two heads of state.

"Though you're not anymore the one on the wheel, you still exercise guidance to our nation through your own ways and means. You're still our president. For [Arroyo], it would be her last SONA, but not for you because you are the one who have been addressing the real state of the nation. Long live!" a user named Mykl said.

'Mother of democracy'

Vilma Jana, another supporter, said she admires Aquino’s "selfless service and honesty" in governing the country. “You are the cleanest and bravest president that our country ever had,” she wrote on the website.

A user named Sylvia, meanwhile, expressed her love for Aquino. She said she hopes the former president "does not leave us on earth, especially because our country needs [her] strength under this corrupt government.”

Most of all, site visitors did not forget Aquino's contribution in helping the Philippines break free from the Marcos dictatorship, which spanned from 1972 to early 1986.

This is why Aquino is known as an icon of democracy throughout the world.

“We love you and we pray for you. Thanks for giving us freedom and democracy,” said one online user.

Geraldine Cheng, another site visitor, said: “We love you for being the mother of democracy in our country.”

Aquino’s children announced on March 24, 2008 that Aquino, then 75 years old, was diagnosed with colon cancer.

Aquino is currently confined at the Makati Medical Center, and is said to be "in stable condition, but sleepy", according to latest media reports.
