MANILA, Philippines - Pangasinan Rep. Gina de Venecia on Monday night confirmed President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III's exposé in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) that her storm-ravaged province was allotted a measly amount from the calamity fund last year.

Mrs. De Venecia, now representative of the 4th district of Pangasinan, said her district did not receive a single centavo from the calamity fund released by the government in 2009.

"Ang totoo niyan, ni isang kusing walang natanggap ang 4th district ng Pangasinan noong panahon ng Ondoy at iba pang bagyo," Mrs. De Venecia said during her thanksgiving party on Monday night.

Mrs. De Venecia won as congresswoman of the 4th district of Pangasinan, taking over her husband, former House Speaker Jose de Venecia. The De Venecias were former political allies of Mrs. Arroyo.

Mrs. De Venecia said she was dismayed after hearing President Aquino's exposé in his first SONA.

President Aquino said Pangasinan received a P5-million calamity fund after the onslaught of typhoon Ondoy, the worst storm to hit the country in 2009.

The President said the P5-million calamity fund was earmarked for the damages incurred by the province from the onslaught of tropical storm Cosme in 2008.

While Pangasinan only got a small amount, Pampanga, which was not directly hit by the storms, received a P108-million calamity fund.

Mrs. De Venecia was certain that the reason behind the unfair release of funds was politics.

She said the calamity fund releases happened after her husband decided to stand by his son, Jose "Joey" de Venecia III, in his exposé on the NBN-ZTE deal.

The younger De Venecia implicated former First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo to the anomalous telecommunications deal, which was eventually junked by former President Arroyo after the exposé.

Meanwhile, Mrs. De Venecia said she remains decided to set aside her family's quarrel with the Arroyos. She said she has already accepted the fact that she may have to work with the former president, her "kumare," in drafting new laws.

narrow mind

Gina de Venecia should open her mind and broaden her vision. she seems unable to identify issues. it's not politics but thievery that Gloria Arroyo did, depriving Pangasinan of calamity fund and syphoning it to Pampanga.
Gloria stole what should have been for Pangasinan and Gina allow her to do it because she is kumare. if Gina is after Gloria's support in congress, there are plenty more representatives in congress who can give Gina the supports she wants. Gina should not just stick to Gloria. being kumare to her might just be Gina's downfall.

@ernestp; With exception to the good majority

ernestp, at sa mga taga Pangasinan hindi ko sinasabi na lahat kayo sons of a beach. Majority and in general mabubuti at magandang kalooban.

@Pedro Go, Pangasinan is not

@Pedro Go, Pangasinan is not Pampanga at walang dugong Aso o lol.

Dogs barking one another

JDV is not just a simple speaker he was a perennial house speaker di po ba?

Pangasinan is a coastal province so it is not surprising to see "sons of the beach" mahilig maligo, maglinis na katawan at mag-iwan ng libag sa tubig.

THE MORE YOU SQUEAK

.....The more you look guilty..... Mrs De Venecia...let the truth commision takes it course to investigate this matter. Defensive move can be interpreted as you are guilty of the crimes. It is better to take the 5th if I were you!

for the sake of her district, I hope Gina can hold her own and not unduly influenced by her kumare who has no morals, sana Gina can stand up to her kumare at hindi sunud-sunuran.
