Arroyo meets with Pampanga officials
MANILA, Philippines – Former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo met with government officials in Pampanga on Saturday to talk about projects for her constituents.
After a thanksgiving mass attended by family and close friends at her residence in Lubao, Arroyo then met with local officials and her staff.
The meeting was the first for Arroyo since being detained in hospital for election sabotage charges.
Arroyo wanted to know if the needs of her constituents were being attended to by her staff.
“Kahit hindi pa ako magaling ng lubusan, pero dahil nami-miss ko kayo, pinuntahan ko kayo,” the congresswoman told her staff.
Barangay officials are happy that Arroyo is out on bail.
They said that for the eight months she was under hospital arrest, projects for the province were left pending by some government agencies.
In Malacañang, officials are not worried if Arroyo runs in next year's midterm election.
Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo, an Arroyo ally, said work and not politics is the reason the former president is in Pampanga.
Arroyo returned to her La Vista Home in Quezon City Saturday night.
On Monday, she will resume her therapy at the Veteran’s Memorial Medical Center. -- Reports from Niko Baua, ABS-CBN News; ANC
